
The Hon Paul Fletcher MP
Paul Fletcher MP is theManager of Opposition Business in the House, Shadow Minister for GovernmentServices and the Digital Economy, and Shadow Minister for Science and the Artsin the 47thParliament.
Paul Fletcher entered Parliament in December 2009 as the Member for Bradfield; was appointedParliamentary Secretary to theMinister for Communications in September 2013; Minister for MajorProjects, Territories, and Local Government in September 2015; Minister for Urban Infrastructure in July2016; Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities in December 2017; Minister for Families and SocialServices in August 2018; Minister for Communications, Cyber Safety and the Arts in 2019andforCommunications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts in December 2020,serving in that role until May 2022.
Before entering Parliament, Paul was Director, Corporate and Regulatory Affairs, at Optus for eightyears, andestablished a consulting firm serving the communications sector. His 2009 bookaboutbroadband,Wired Brown Land, was published by UNSW Press; in 2021 his bookGoverning in theInternet Agewas published by Monash University Press
Earlier in his career Paul was Chief of Staff to the Minister for Communications in the HowardGovernment, Senator Richard Alston.
He has dual first class honours degrees in law and economics from The University of Sydney and anMBA from Columbia University in New York where he was a Fulbright Scholar.
Paul has been a member of the Liberal Party since he was 16 and was active in student politics at SydneyUniversity. He was a champion university debater, twice reaching the finals of the World UniversitiesDebating Championship.
