Founder Green Iron and Green Steel of WA

Raj is a founder of Green Iron and Steel Australia and Green Steel of WA, coming from an investment banking and financing background with a strong focus on energy and infrastructure financing.

Raj developed his advisory capability in the infrastructure arm of Macquarie Capital where he was responsible for the financing and economic assessment of large infrastructure projects across WA, Australia and Asia for a period of 12 years. Raj’s role was primarily focused on private sector financing structures Governments on the commercial and structure opportunities for PPP as a way to deliver energy and water projects.

After Macquarie, Raj has worked with some of WA’s largest companies including Woodside and Synergy where he was a Commercial Manager and has a solid understanding of energy sector and upcoming technologies and trends. In 2019 he advised the WA Government on how it can procure steel for its transport projects and this lead to an in-depth analysis of steel making technologies, sector coupling with low carbon energy solutions and how to methodically shift the steel making industry. This lead to the development of Green Steel WA, which now has a series of projects under development in the iron ore and renewable resources rich areas of Australia.

Raj has worked on iconic projects in the energy sector across wind and solar farms, waste to energy, carbon farming and hydrogen production, and these skills are brought together in steel making.
Raj has consulted companies at senior executive and board level and is experienced in investment analysis, financial modelling, strategic advice, assessment and recommendation on risk allocation and assessment of project structures.
