John Knox

John Knox is one of the most senior and trusted leaders in Financial Services in Australia.

John is Head of Ares, Australia and New Zealand, with the mandate of driving Ares’ business expansion opportunities in the two countries. Ares has approximately US$350 billion of assets under management across North America, Europe and Asia, offering complementary, integrated investment groups that invest across Credit, Private Equity and Real Estate.\n

His twenty five year career at Credit Suisse in both New York and Australia included over four years as CEO of Credit Suisse Australia. As CEO, John managed a diverse range of complex businesses and teams in a difficult and highly competitive external environment. The role included management of Investment Banking, Private Banking, Equities, Asset Finance, Fixed Income, Debt Financing and Shared Services.

John’s career includes extensive work in people leadership, originating and executing landmark transactions across multiple industries, and building nascent businesses into high return on capital / high revenue generators. His expertise in creating successful high-performance workplace cultures, building new businesses, and eliminating cross business silos led the Australian business to significant profit growth.

John has a long history of originating and executing complex transactions across a range of industries. He has been a trusted advisor to many ASX companies.

John’s profile as a respected leader include significant roles beyond work. John was Chairman of the Australian Financial Markets Association (2016-2019), the industry body for institutional market participants in Australia, during a time of unprecedented turbulence during and post the Banking Royal Commission.

Since 2018, John has been Chairman of Cricket NSW - the body responsible for running Australia’s largest sport in Australia’s most populous state. As Chairman of Cricket NSW John was critical in forcing cultural change at Cricket Australia following a period of difficult events. John’s ability to rapidly affect macro change is significantly helped by his extensive relationships across business, sport and politics.
